- Andrew S. Dolkart, author of the LPC Report for the “Commie Coops" ascribes its style to Northern European Expressionism, not Art Deco. BADAHA begs to differ. Certainly not the German Expressionism of Eric Mendelssohn or Hans Scharoun. Nor the Dutch Expressionism of Michel de Klerk, its best known practitioner in brick. Jessor’s “Coops” have none of the biologically inspired plastic sculptural forms that characterize Expressionism. They belong rightly in the Early Deco style of prominent verticals terminating in cast stone with abstract corbeled geometric rectilinear forms at the parapets as well as the bold corner brick patterns that seem to prefigure corner windows.
